Setting up an Internet access point
Based on the type of the SIM card you use your device
may be able to automatically add the correct settings for
WWW browsing and MMS. Some Internet service
providers may offer you the possibility to configure your
Internet access point settings by sending you a message.
This might reduce the number of settings you need to
enter yourself, or eliminate the need altogether. For more

The exact values for the settings are usually provided by
your service provider. Follow the instructions given to you
by your service provider very carefully.
You may have to set up several Internet connections,
depending on the sites you want to access. For example,
browsing the Internet may require one setup, whereas
browsing your company’s intranet may require another
connection.
The Messaging application also uses the Internet access
point to send and receive e-mail and multimedia
messages. See “Messaging” on page 45.
Note that any data transfers via GPRS are subject to
applicable operator data transfer fees.
To set up Internet access point, tap

. Define the following fields on the pages of the
Internet setup wizard:
Connection name:
— Give a descriptive name for the
connection.
Data bearer:
— Choose the data connection type. For more
information on data connection types, see “Data
connections” on page 29.
Depending on which data connection you select, some
of the following setting fields will be available on the
following pages of the wizard.
GSM Data call details
Dial-up number:
— The modem telephone number of the
access point.
GPRS details
Network type:
— Choose which version of the Internet
protocol you want to use.
Auto-retrieve access point:
— If your network operator
supports this feature, the access point name can be
retrieved automatically from the network. The access
point is needed to establish a connection to the GPRS
network.
Access point name:
— If you do not use the
Auto-retrieve
access point:
, define a name for the access point. You
can obtain the access point name from your network
operator or service provider.
Login details
Prompt password at every login:
— Select this if you must
write a new password every time you log onto a server, or
if you do not want to save your password to the
smartphone.
User name:
— Write a user name if required by the service
provider. The user name may be needed to make a data
connection, and is usually provided by the service provider.
The user name is often case-sensitive.

VPN details
Note that you must have at least one internet access point
and you must have installed at least one VPN policy before
you can define a VPN access point. For more information
on installing VPN policies, see “Managing VPN policies” on
page 116.
